Pharmacodynamics.

In its pure form, glycerin has an irritating effect, which disappears when adding water (up to 30-50%), petroleum jelly, lanolin. When inserted into the rectum, suppositories have a mild irritating effect on the mucous membrane and reflexively stimulate defecation. When used in the form of rectal suppositories, it facilitates the excretion of fecal masses.

Constipation of various etiologies (when the use of oral drugs is impossible).

Increased sensitivity to the components of the drug. Intestinal obstruction, kidney failure, appendicitis, bleeding, diarrhea, hemorrhoids in the acute stage, anal fissures, inflammatory diseases, tumors of the rectum, undiagnosed abdominal pain.

It is not recommended to use suppositories for a course of treatment longer than 1 week.

Use with caution in case of impaired kidney function, allergies, nausea, vomiting.

Wash your hands thoroughly before and after using suppositories.

Suppositories with glycerin can weaken the effect of other drugs that are used rectally. It is necessary to observe an interval of several hours.

  • Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • During pregnancy, the drug can be used only when the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whether glycerin is excreted in breast milk, so the doctor can prescribe the drug only when the expected benefit for the mother exceeds the potential risk for the child. Apply 1 suppository once a day 15-20 minutes after breakfast.

The suppository is inserted into the rectum and kept there for at least 5 minutes, if there is no defecation earlier. Remnants of suppositories are excreted from the body together with feces. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 2 suppositories per day.

Adults and children over 5 years of age are prescribed 1 suppository (containing 1.5 g of glycerin) once a day. Children under 5 years old – 1 suppository (containing 0.75 g of glycerin) once a day.

There are no restrictions.

In case of overdose, frequent bowel movements, liquid feces are possible. This phenomenon passes by itself after the withdrawal of the drug.

Adverse reactions.

Allergic reactions are possible; pain, nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal bleeding.

With long-term use, irritation and unpleasant sensations in the rectum were observed; sometimes catarrhal proctitis.
